Dr. William Cohen

Dr. Bill Cohen is an internationally-known expert in the treatment of chronic pain by use of the non-surgical technique: pulsed radiofrequency.

During the 40 years Dr. Cohen has been in practice, he has helped tens of thousands of patients live pain-free lives.

As a proponent of education, Dr. Cohen has taught more than 75 courses across the world. Most recently, Dr. Cohen has lectured at international conferences at the Swiss Paraplegic Institute in Nottwil, Switzerland as well as Maastricht, Netherlands.

In addition to physician education, Dr. Cohen is passionate about educating his patients. For 20 years he has hosted “Where Does It Hurt?” a radio show where he discusses the treatment and management of chronic pain with patients or anyone who has questions. Dr. Cohen graduated from The University of Santo Tomas (Catholic University of the Phillipines) with an MD degree. He subsequently trained at the State University of New York in Internal Medicine, then at various hospital settings, through the Monmouth Medical center, in General Surgery, including the Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer in New York and Hahnemann University hospital in Philadelphia.

1985
Anesthesiology and Pain Management

Dr. Cohen’s interests eventually led him to Anesthesiology and Pain Management. He was trained at Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital in Browns Mills New Jersey, St Joseph’s children’s hospital in Philadelphia, and multiple other sites. While in professional practice of anesthesiology and pain management, Dr. Cohen met Professor Menno Sluijter at Harvard University and then visited the Netherlands where he worked and trained with Dr. Sluijter and other world renowned pain specialists in Amsterdam, Maastricht, and Gelene.

1993
Founded Pain Relief Center

In 1993 Dr. Cohen moved to Sioux City and founded the Pain Relief Center at the Marian Health Center. Then, in 1999 Founded the American Pain Relief Institute, LLC in Yankton, SD.

Certification

Dr. Cohen is board certified in Interventional Pain Management through the American Association of Pain Management. He is a member of The Spinal Intervention Society, The North American Spine Society (NASS), and was formerly on the board of the South Dakota Medical Association.
